Rooted in Tradition, Crafted for Today.

"Great tea is not made; it is grown, nurtured, and coaxed into being."

Baricha was founded on a simple premise: to share the pure, unadulterated essence of green tea with the world. We partner exclusively with small-batch, multi-generational farmers who understand the soul of the leaf.

Every leaf we offer is hand-selected during the first harvest, ensuring the highest concentration of L-theanine and vibrant, umami-rich flavor that sets us apart.

Brewing Perfection.

Temperature, time, and attention. The three pillars of a perfect cup.

1

Water Temperature

Never use boiling water. For Sencha, aim for 70°C (160°F). For Gyokuro, lower is better: 50°C (122°F).

2

Leaf Ratio

We recommend 3-4 grams (1 heaping teaspoon) of loose leaf tea per 200ml (7oz) of water.

3

Steeping Time

Patience is key. Steep for exactly 60 seconds for the first infusion to extract sweetness without bitterness.

4

The Last Drop

Pour out every last drop into your cup. The final drops contain the most concentrated, umami-rich flavor.

Common Questions.

Sencha is a loose leaf tea made from whole leaves that are steeped in water, then removed before drinking. It has a refreshing, grassy flavor. Matcha is made from specially shade-grown leaves that are stone-ground into a fine powder. When you drink matcha, you are consuming the entire leaf, which gives it a much thicker texture and higher concentration of nutrients and caffeine.
A typical cup of our Sencha contains about 25-30mg of caffeine (about 1/3 of a cup of coffee). Matcha contains more, roughly 60-70mg per serving. However, green tea also contains L-theanine, an amino acid that slows the absorption of caffeine, resulting in a steady, calm energy without the jittery spike and crash associated with coffee.
Green tea is sensitive to light, heat, moisture, and odors. We recommend storing your tea in its original airtight, light-blocking pouch or in an opaque tea caddy. Keep it in a cool, dark cupboard away from strong-smelling spices or coffee. For unopened matcha, storing it in the refrigerator can prolong its freshness, but bring it to room temperature before opening to prevent condensation.
